One of my favorite Route 66 locations, the art deco Conoco Station of Shamrock, Texas, is the focus of “Caravan Stop.” In 2005 it was restored to its original state, and I photographed it on my way home from Barrett-Jackson. I created a Six Generation Corvette piece and positioned the various Corvettes around the theme of a Road Tour Caravan (much like the ones Judy and I have led). Some of the drivers are fueling their cars while some are sipping soft drinks, but the interaction with the cars is much like a gasoline stop on one of our tours. Three of the Corvettes are ones I owned at the time: the Callaway convertible backed up to the service bay, the 2003 Milestone Z06 up on the lift, and the silver ’65 partially hidden behind a pump (which I still have).
